Growing culture: indigenous bacteria compost starter

Today I went to check the starter culture for the Dochaku-kin compost and this is what I found under the tarp...



The tarp perfectly kept all the moisture inside and so the whole mound of the starter mix got covered in a whitish hazes of micro-organisms... still keeping it under control but this time we may have scored already a quite good result! 
 
The layer of bacteria is very thin: in the following picture you can see one "brown" part on the central-left side, where I gently scratched the surface.   


After this quick check... there was just one thing to do: repeat the whole process with another batch of soil! Now there are two mounds brewing under the tarp... hold on till I go to open it again.
