Today I decided to approach another "challenging" task since it's involving besides a lot of physical labor also various delicate planning decisions: the insulation of the ground floor. The digging has started around the most tricky areas...
The surface it's a hard cement crust that needs to be cut and broken into manageable sized pieces. Full on power tools, like there's no tomorrow . . . The next layer below it's a very brittle sandy-mix that was used to make some sort of a flat surface. Underneath that it's just a few rocks here and there and a lot of compacted earth...
Sifting all the dug out material there is really good soil to be set aside and to be given back to the garden: not much biological life after many many decades... but also for sure not many invasive/native plant seeds. It's a big bet and we will see how it goes this year's home-farming season!!!
