Finished today the two month long process of getting organized and complete all the labor needed to demolish the top part of the south-side wall, then lifting up the log which was way to low for the average standards. This is just a quick slide show: some details of the stone work follow in this post.
The first part of the process is the controlled demolition and removal of all the bricks blocking the light in the top side of the opening. With the help of a lovely friend I was able to set aside all the bricks and save a whole pile of lime debris for further use...
This is the first brick to come down and bring inside more light... it's such a lovely moment!!!
Later on, in order to free the log from its position and lift it up, some tricky operations are needed trying to minimize the damage avoiding the weakening of the corners of the wall.
A combination of hand tools and power hammering drills allow the log to be set free from the wall.
This is the sequence of works on the left side.
